This morning was stressful. There was yelling, complaining, crying. By the time I was downstairs getting breakfast ready and lunches made, still waiting for my kids to get ready, I was on edge. We were running late. After I finished getting their lunches ready, we had 3 minutes. I figured God would make the 3 minutes stretch. I sat down with my kids at the breakfast table and read the devotional for today. Wow, did God speak to me. It said to ask God to fill us with the Holy Spirit. We need to thank God for giving us the Holy Spirit. It said the Holy Spirit lives within us and guides us. It said that the Holy Spirit is the great multiplier. We can have a tiny bit of faith, and the Holy Spirit can increase our faith at a rapid speed. I prayed with my kids, thanking God for the Holy Spirit. I prayed for them and then as an afterthought, I prayed that the Holy Spirit would fill me up too, especially on this busy morning. Wow, what a difference! We were still running behind, however I spoke calmly as I nudged them along. My kids were smiling. God is so amazing. God gives us what we don’t even know we need. God gives us the Holy Spirit as a guarantee, a promise of his love.
Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

The Holy Spirit gives us understanding. Before we start our bible study at church, the Pastor’s wife always prays. She prays for the Holy Spirit to give us understanding. When I was a child, I tried to read the bible, and I just didn’t get it. Even as an adult, I still don’t always get it. Now, before I open the bible I pray for understanding. Sometimes, I read passages, and I still don’t get it. I will underline the passages that stand out to me. As I look them up on my computer and start writing my blog, I get greater understanding. Its like an “Ah Ha” moment. That’s what God to telling me today! The Holy Spirit gives me a greater depth of understanding that I would never get on my own. I always hear what I need to know for that day.
And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.

Every morning I need to pray that the Holy Spirit fills me up today. The Holy Spirit gives us peace, calmness and understanding. I really felt it today. I was on edge, and when I prayed to the Holy Spirit, I felt a wave of peace settle on me. The Holy Spirit took my jumble of emotions and defused it, like blowing out a match. All at once, I was calm and at peace. Thank God for the gift that we didn’t know we needed. Thank God for the gift of the Holy Spirit!

Dear God,
Thank you for giving us the gift of the Holy Spirit. I pray that the Holy Spirit fills me up today. Praying for understanding and peace, so I can do your will, God.
