Do you believe that whatever you ask for in prayer you will receive? I have to admit, sometimes I feel like what I am asking for is more like a dream that won’t really come true…until it does.
In the bible, Jesus said that if you believe, without any doubts in your heart, these things will be done. That means that you have complete and utter faith and trust in God. Jesus said, “whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”
The Lesson of the Withered Fig Tree
Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”
So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
–Mark 11:20-24 (NKJV)
The creator of the universe and creator of all things can answer any prayer. So, why don’t I always have 100 percent faith? Sometimes, I think I am too far gone. Sometimes, I can only see what is in front of me. I focus on the past, instead of the future.
God can do hard things.
God has done so much in my life. God has changed outcomes. God has broken the strongholds of sin. God has given us a home, employment, and children. I prayed for each one of these things, and God answered my prayers. It is only a struggle when we try to do everything on our own. God is waiting for us to call on him. God forgives us, when me make mistakes. Take my word for it. I have made countless mistakes in my life. God is always there, waiting.
God does not have to answer our prayers. God’s ways are not our ways. God may work on us in a new way.
As I am coping with my mom’s stage 4 cancer diagnosis and living through it, God is right here. Sometimes, I pray 5-6 times a day, because the burden is too much for me. I cannot carry it alone. As I bring my requests to God, God is working on all areas of my life. God is not content to let me stay where I am. God is refining me and making me stronger each day.
