Choosing Faith Each Day, John

We Are Not of the World

The Coronavirus has certainly turned our lives topsy turvy! Even though we are entering Phase 2 on Friday, we are not going back to normal anytime soon, if ever.

Today in Virginia, we heard an update on schools and sports for the Fall. Some are on, some are off. Schools plan to practice social distance in the classrooms. Students will be staggered in half day schedules. Teachers have to wear masks.

I have read so many social media posts on the topic, that my eyes are starting to hurt. I have no idea how these measures will be carried out and enforced.

So when the world seems like it is going crazy, there is only one place to turn. God is the only answer.

God is in control. Don’t follow the world. Instead, turn to God.

Jesus told his disciples that the world will hate them. God is not of this world. Jesus prayed that his disciples will be taken out of the world and sent to heaven in God’s timing. Most importantly, Jesus asked God to protect his disciples from the evil one. Jesus wanted them purified with the truth of God. He wanted his disciples to set apart. God’s word is truth.

I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
—John 17:14-17 (NKJV)

When we decided to follow God with our whole hearts, we are living in the world, but our hearts and minds are with God. We will be set apart and never really fit into the world. Knowing this truth sets us free. God will protect us from Satan and watch over us. Our hearts are with God in heaven, so we are not of the world.
