Two days ago, Charlie Kirk was assassinated. It is all over every social media feed. I have never met him, he spoke at my church once.
Why do I feel a profound loss? He believed in Jesus and had a strong faith. He loved America. He loved his family. He went to college campuses to speak to students and engage in discussions. He didn’t have a formal advanced degree, but his memory, knowledge and reasoning were remarkable. In my opinion, he wanted to challenge people on why they held the beliefs that they did.
I didn’t agree with everything he said.
He had death threats because people disagreed with him. He was murdered for being honest and sharing his opinions.
America is one of the few places in the world that honors freedom of speech. This should have not happened here.
I often feel like I have to tip toe around my faith and beliefs so I don’t offend anyone. Is this what happens when you are open and honest? You get labeled a nazi by people who disagree with you and murdered?
I hope my children grow up to have the deep faith that Charlie Kirk had. I hope they love Jesus and spread the Gospel. I love America, and I hope they love it enough to learn all the nuances of the how the government works to lead thoughtful discussions and debates. I want them to have families and love them well. I pray they don’t get murdered for it.
Jesus did.
Jesus died for us. Jesus gave his life, so we can all have eternal life. All we have to do is believe that he died for our sins. We don’t deserve it, yet He did it because He loves us. We are all going to die in this life, but that doesn’t have to be the end. The belief in Jesus gives us a new eternal life in heaven, we just have to believe.
Going forward, I hope to no longer tip toe around my faith in “uncomfortable” situations.
I am not ashamed of the Gospel. I pray that I will boldly proclaim the words of the Bible, so the power of God can save everyone who believes.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”
