Isaiah, Trusting in God

Caffeine for the Soul

If I don’t have coffee in the morning, the rest of the day is always not quite right. I don’t have the extra pop of energy to start my day, and I am falling asleep in the afternoon. Its also true that if I don’t start my day with God, the day isn’t quite the same. At church, there was a guest speaker, Matt Maher from Coastal Christian in Ocean City, New Jersey. He has an amazing story, if you ever get the chance to hear him, it will be worth your time. He said these words that ring in my mind each day, “Get the word in your head, before the world gets in your head.”

I spend time on social media, the Facebook feed and Instagram pictures telling me how great everyone’s life is, fantastic vacations, amazing children, fitness wins, friends, parties and on and on. This is the world scrolling through my head with vibrant pictures, words and videos. I never know how these visuals will make me feel–happy, sad, inadequate. I do know how the bible makes me feel.

Every morning, after I take the kids to the bus stop, I get my coffee, my bible, prayer journal and devotion book. I turn off the radio and focus on God. God fills a void in my heart, that nothing else can. God gives me energy and fills me with peace and love, so I start my day off right. God is caffeine for my soul. When I start my day reading God’s word in the bible, annoyances roll off me, because I know God is always with me.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10
