The Side of Victory

When I look in the mirror, I see a reflection of a flawed person. I don’t think that I can always see what God sees in me. I see all the things that I want to change. In the bible, God uses the imperfect people, so his glory can shine through. A king is not saved by his great army. A warrior does not escape by his great strength. A horse cannot save alone. The Lord looks upon those who fear him. The Lord looks after those who put their hope in God’s unfailing love to deliver them from death and famine.

No king is saved by the size of his army;
no warrior escapes by his great strength.
A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;
despite all its great strength it cannot save.
But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
to deliver them from death
and keep them alive in famine.
–Psalm 33:16-19 (NIV)

There may be great armies and great warriors, but if they rely on themselves, the Lord will bless the faithful with victory. Faithful people wait and hope for the Lord to be their help and shield. Their hearts rejoice in the Lord. They trust in his holy name. They pray for his unfailing love, as they put their hope in the Lord.

We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.
–Psalm 33:20-22 (NIV)

It doesn’t matter what people say about you. It only matters what the Lord thinks about you. If you are right with the Lord, you will always be on the side of victory.
