Have you ever felt lost and confused. You feel like something is missing in your life? We are meant to have a relationship with God. When we stop relying on God and rely only on ourselves, we start to feel unpleasant feelings more often. Our worries are greater. Our stress is greater. It feels like our life is coming undone at the seams.

Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts.
–Zechariah 1:3 (NKJV)

God is always willing to welcome us back. “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts.

How do you know that you have moved too far away from God? It doesn’t take much to get off course. Each day, I have to start again. When I don’t seek God, everything is harder. I feel more irritated and annoyed at things that don’t usually bother me. Life seems stressful and overwhelming. I doubt everything. I worry. I start thinking about all the things that could go wrong. I am fearful.

When I seek God, I feel at peace and content. I feel happy and encouraged. I feel confident and ready to try new things. God gives us love and positive feelings. God wants what is best for us, so God uplifts us and sets us up for success. Why wouldn’t we want to return to God?

What does returning to God look like?

Over the past three years, these are ways that have helped me put God in the center of my life, not just a thing I do a few Sundays a month. I seek God each day. If I am too busy to read the bible and pray, my heart feels like it is missing something. I feel empty.

Church

Going to a church that studies the bible is essential. It will change your life. We attended a church that said the bible was no longer relevant. They created their own things to teach and said going to church on Sundays was not really important. If you hear any of things, RUN! The bible is God’s living word. If your preacher or pastor thinks they don’t need the bible, they think they know more than God. They have gotten lost along the way. If you are lost, you can no longer lead. I can tell you from experience, that you will not get much out of these services. People will leave the church seeking God’s truth. The bible is inspired by God. As the pastor said last night, a church without the focus on the bible is just a social gathering.

Holy Spirit

Lift your arms up to the heavens and invite the Holy Spirit to fill you up. You may be thinking, are you serious? Yes, absolutely. The Holy Spirit is the true source of energy and light. God pours his Spirit on you. Nothing can compare to God filling you up with the Holy Spirit. Its a special gift for Christians. Once you invite the Holy Spirit into your life, you will know why. The Holy Spirit makes you feel happy and at peace. It is a wonderful feeling.

Bible

The bible is fully of God’s Holy and living words. God can communicate with us through the bible. The closer we try and get to God, the more understanding he gives us. Deeper meanings are revealed, if we read the bible on a regular basis.

Bible Study or Small Group

You can join a bible study or small group. There are different types of groups. Some groups require homework and preparation. Other groups just meet and discuss topics. You can find one that works for you. I always get wonderful insights, when I make time to attend these groups.

Music

I started listening to Christian music a few years ago. When I first turned on the station, I would cry at certain songs. I thought God was talking to me through the music. I love Christian music. We live in Virginia, so I listen to WGTS. There are still songs that stand out to me, and I will download them, and play them over and over again. The music is family friendly. My kids can listen to it, without me getting embarrassed, or having to explain bad language, or topics I am not ready to explore.

Freedom

You have the freedom to seek God however you wish. The more you seek God, the more you will want to seek God. If you are busy with work, school and a family, you can still find time. You can say prayers in the car. Listen to Christian music. Read devotional books. You can read scriptures verses, before you go to bed. God will always welcome you. There are no rules. It should not be stressful. God will take away your stress and give you peace and rest.
