Choosing Faith Each Day, Mark, Paul

Serve God With All Your Heart, Mind, and Strength

For the past month, we have had family visiting. It was so fun. Now, I am so tired. I prayed for each visit. I prayed that God would bless our time together and give us grace. I tried to be a good hostess, and it is not hard when everyone smiles and says thank you. It makes me want to do more. It becomes a pleasure to serve. It is amazing that smiles and kind words can make you feel so warm and happy inside. Our family made us an anniversary cake and helped put a chair together for our deck, that had been sitting in the garage. It made me so happy! It meant so much that they took the time to do nice things for us. I can see why God delights in a cheerful giver. Being a recipient of a cheerful giver is quite an amazing feeling. Its like happiness abounding.

So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
–2 Corinthians 9:7 (NKJV)

I often wonder if I am doing God’s will, and if I can do better. In the bible, a scribe asks Jesus which is the most important commandment to follow? Jesus said the first commandment is to love the Lord, our God with our strength, mind and soul. Give God everything we have. The second commandment is to love our neighbor.

The Scribes: Which Is the First Commandment of All?
Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?”

Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
–Mark 12:28-31 (NKJV)

Above all, we have to trust in God, or everything else will crumble. So, first we must make sure that our foundation is deeply rooted in God. We have to give everything to God and rely on God completely. Once we rely on God, God can help us love our neighbor and do his good works through us.

Sometimes, I feel like the weight of the world is on my shoulders. That is simply not true. I have to put my faith in trust in God each day. I can read the bible and pray. God will decide the outcome. My job is to do my part. My part is to seek God, and ask how I can serve God. Once I serve God with my heart, mind, all my strength, God can work through me.
