Rejoice In The Reason For Christmas

Next Wednesday is Christmas! Our house is decorated. We are listening to Christmas music. We are watching Christmas movies. I have to wrap presents. Yesterday, the store was almost sold out of Christmas decorations. So many people embrace the traditions of Christmas. How many people embrace the meaning of Christmas? There are protests against nativity scenes in public places. Some people get really angry when they see the Nativity scene anywhere. It is like they forget the meaning of Christmas.

The Old Testament predicts the coming of a Savior. The angel, Gabriel, appeared to a young girl, Mary, telling her she would be pregnant with a baby who would save the world. She asked how it that possible? “For with God nothing will be impossible.”

Christ’s Birth Announced to Mary
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”

But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”

And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible.”

Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

–Luke 1:26-38 (NKJV)

I look at the world through limited vision. I see what I see. God looks at the world, and there is nothing that he cannot do. God has no restrictions or limitations. The one thing that you can count on is that everything God does is good. Imagine the world where goodness had no limits, and goodness was forever and boundless.

Luke1-38

I love the Christmas season. I love the spirit of Christmas, the generosity and good will. It is the one time of year, when you sit down and write out Christmas cards to friends, family and neighbors. I want to extend the happiness of Christmas a little bit longer. God is so generous and good to us. At Christmas, we honor God by being generous and good to others too. I treasure the Christmas spirit and excited anticipation of the big day. As we go through the last week before Christmas, I will focus on the reason for Christmas and treasure all the fun ways we rejoice in the birth of Jesus Christ.
