The news lately has been so troubling. I live in Virginia. I moved here almost 4 years ago. I have loved it here, until this weekend. The Virginia Governor has been in the news this weekend for some very terrible reasons. I am so sad that Virginia voted for him and voted out a good governor. A video of an interview was in the news that featured how Democrat Va. Gov. Northam, Pediatric Neurologist, advocates infanticide. He suggests delivering babies and deciding if the baby should live or die, after the baby has been delivered. This is not abortion, this is killing babies. New York passed a similar law to allow killing babies, and celebrated by lighting up the One World Trade Center in pink lights. I am not sure how we got to the place where society celebrates killing babies, but this is not the first time society has celebrated killing children.
In the bible, in the book of Jeremiah, scriptures tell us that there were high places built to make sacrifices to Baal. People would take their babies and burn their babies as a sacrifice to Baal, which they worshipped as a god. The sacrifices took place in Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, which is now Lebanon. It is now known as the Valley of Slaughter.
They have built the high places of Baal to burn their children in the fire as offerings to Baal—something I did not command or mention, nor did it enter my mind. So beware, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when people will no longer call this place Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter.
–Jeremiah 19:5-6 (NIV)
I wonder how New York will be remembered for celebrating the killing of their babies. What nick name could capture the horror of celebrating the murder of innocent babies and lighting up the city to celebrate?
Our God, the God of Jacob and Isaiah, is an awesome God. God created this entire universe breathing everything into life. God created the depths of the ocean and created boundaries for the ocean to stop in the sand. God created the universe. When we gaze at the stars and wonder how infinite the world is out there, we can only imagine, but God knows. God created it. So, why would we think that God would not form each of us in our mother’s womb to be fearfully and wonderfully made? God created us, of course we have a purpose and unmeasurable value. In Jeremiah, God even says that he planned on creating Jeremiah, before he was formed in his mother’s womb. If God has plans for us before we are conceived, how can people possible think they have a right to kill a child delivered from its mother?
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
–Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV)
Each of one of us is fearfully and wonderfully made. God loves each of us. God created us all for a special purpose. Each of us is like a puzzle piece for God’s plan, if we use our God given talents for God’s glory, wonderful things can be created. Even though we can only see one piece of the puzzle, God knows how each piece will fit together.
