Have you ever had a difficult time in your life? I have had several difficult times. When you are deep in the struggle, that is when you are willing to do anything to get out of where you are. You try and try on your own to find a way out. You are desperate to do anything. That may be the moment that you decide to seek God. You may “go in tears to seek the Lord their God.” You had to get to this place of surrendering to God by going through the hard stuff.
Before I had my two children, I had three miscarriages. I was not in a good place. I was very depressed. I was so sad. I felt so lonely. I was in a deep mourning for the three babies that I had lost. I was willing to try anything to have a baby. It was like I was in a darkness, and I saw a flicker of light. I decided to ask the church to pray for me. I am not very good at asking for help, so this was a huge deal. I was willing to put my deep emotional want for a baby, out there to friends, family and neighbors. I was in that place where I went in tears to seek the Lord. I wanted God to help me, desperately. I surrendered my pride and brought my prayer to the church. I had this scripture verse in my mind, when I asked the church to pray for me. “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” I was positive that my prayer would be answered. I had complete faith in this verse.
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
–Matthew 18:20 (NIV)
God is faithful. God answered my prayer. I had a baby boy almost 9 years ago. He is amazing, such a blessing from God. Later, I asked the church to pray for me to have another baby, and I had a beautiful baby girl two years after I had my son. She is an amazing blessing. Since then, I have been seeking God. I ask God to show me the way, and I follow it. I haven’t always gotten it. I have taken a few wrong turns along the way. Since we switched churches, to a church that goes through the bible from start to finish, I feel like I have come to know God so much better. I still have struggles, but I feel like God will help me through them.
In the bible passage from Jeremiah 50:4-5, God speaks through Jeremiah. God tells the people of Babylon that after their land is destroyed, people will flee away. “They will come and bind themselves to the Lord in an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten.” The people of Babylon were on the wrong path. They were worshiping false gods and doing everything to make God angry. God punished them by allowing their land to be taken over. When their land was being taken over, and people were fleeing, that is when they sought God. Everything around them was crumbling and being destroyed. They went in tears and sought the Lord. They asked God to show them the way, and they turned towards it. They binded themselves to the Lord in an everlasting covenant. Once they sought the Lord, they were shown the way and God wrapped them up in his promise that will not be forgotten.
“In those days, at that time,”
declares the Lord,
“the people of Israel and the people of Judah together
will go in tears to seek the Lord their God.
They will ask the way to Zion
and turn their faces toward it.
They will come and bind themselves to the Lord
in an everlasting covenant
that will not be forgotten.
–Jeremiah 50:4-5 (NIV)
Are you going through a difficult time? You can seek the Lord. You can pray, and if you feel it on your heart, ask your church or bible study group to pray for you. When you are going through a difficult time, go to God with tears in your eyes and ask God to show you the way.
