Trusting in God

Boast About Your Faith In God

Lately, I have mulling over the concept of pride and faithfulness. Pride can manifest itself in so many different ways. Pride can make you think you are great and mighty, and then be deflated in a flash. Pride is like a balloon, one little comment can be like a needle popping the balloon into tiny pieces. Pride can make people boast or brag about themselves. Being faithful is believing in God. Its also believing that God can help us through everything and help us do hard things. If we feel called by God to do something, God will give us everything that we need to accomplish his good works. Nothing is too hard for God.

When I read the bible this morning, I found a passage in Jeremiah. The Lord says that  the wise should not boast of their wisdom. The strong should not boast of their strength. The rich should not boast about their riches. If we boast, we should boast about God “that they have the understanding to know me”. What does that mean? We should boast about God. We should boast that we recognize that we need God. We should boast about our faith in God. We understand that we need to know God. The Lord treats us with kindness. The Lord is just and righteous to his people on earth. God delights in those that love him. God delights in those that seek him. I think God reveals things to those who seek him, that people without faith don’t understand. Others will boast about their material things, their appearance and their intellect. Those who know God should boast about how great our God is, just, kind and righteous to us.

This is what the Lord says:

“Let not the wise boast of their wisdom
or the strong boast of their strength
or the rich boast of their riches,
but let the one who boasts boast about this:
that they have the understanding to know me,
that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness,
justice and righteousness on earth,
for in these I delight,”
declares the Lord.
–Jeremiah 9:23-24 (NIV)

When we boast that we understand and know God, we will proclaim his glory and power. God made us from nothing. He formed the earth, skies and the oceans. There is nothing that our God cannot do. When we have faith in our almighty God, we will truly understand God’s greatness. Do you have something in your life that you are struggling with? You may not see a solution. God does. We have to trust in God and have faith. When we believe that God will help us overcome our struggles with every fiber of our being, we will see how God is kind and just. Can you remember a time when you had complete faith that God was going to answer your prayer? I do. I know that God is faithful. One time the answer took 5 years. Sometimes the answer is no, not right now. God knows things we do not. God’s timing is perfect. We should be proud of our faith in God. Do not boast about earthly things, instead boast about your faith in God.
