When I see a lightning bolt flash in the sky and hear the rumble of thunder from above, I am reminded of God’s almighty power. When I see the beauty of nature in the Grand Canyon, sunsets, oceans, and mountains, I am reminded of God’s majesty. When I pray and the Holy Spirit fills me with feelings of happiness, peace and joy, I feel God’s goodness washing over me. I want to sing and praise God for being so good!
We have an all powerful God. I don’t always think about God’s power. I usually think about God’s love and goodness, when he deals with me. God gets outraged at his enemies. God is jealous, and God avenges. The Lord gets furious at his enemies. God will take vengeance on his enemies. The Lord is slow to anger and great in power. God will not find the wicked innocent. The Lord can direct the whirlwind in a storm. Clouds are dust at the Lord’s feet.
God’s Wrath on His Enemies
God is jealous, and the Lord avenges;
The Lord avenges and is furious.
The Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries,
And He reserves wrath for His enemies;
The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
And will not at all acquit the wicked.
The Lord has His way
In the whirlwind and in the storm,
And the clouds are the dust of His feet.
–Nahum 1:2-3 (NKJV)
Storms can rage and cause so much destruction. Huge trees fall down. Houses are destroyed. A storm can last only a few minutes, and the damage will remain for years. A tornado touched down near my mom’s house a few years ago. 17 trees fell down at her house. When I drive through her neighborhood, I see the bare yards, that were once shaded by trees, and I remember the storm. God has the almighty power to be like a storm. God made everything on earth, so God can also destroy the entire earth in an instant. It is good to revere the Lord. We need to have a very deep respect and admiration for God and his almighty power.
God is good. God knows those that trust in him. God knows what is in our hearts. God loves those who trust in him. God is our fortress in times of trouble. God will protect those who love him. God is like an invisible shield surrounding us and protecting us.
The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble;
And He knows those who trust in Him.
–Nahum 1:7 (NKJV)
When you love God and trust in God, he will protect you. At times, God can lift his hand of protection from us. If you are deeply rooted in your love for God, you will feel when his protection is lifted, but you will be able to hang on. You will have hope and faith that God will surround you with his protection again. God may want see what is in your heart. If you have faith, you can endure difficulties. Life has difficult times, which feel like a battle to me. I have to pray my way through it. God knows you. “He knows those who trust in Him.” God will protect you in times of trouble. Next time you see a storm raging on in the sky, remember to revere the power of God.
