Choosing Faith Each Day, John

Day 21: Each Day Is A Gift From God

Today marks 3 weeks since my mom was taken to the hospital, and we found out that she had a brain tumor.

It has been a roller coaster of emotions. Ups and downs. Shock. Sadness. Anger. Acceptance. Amazement. Contentment. Happiness. Peace. Calm. Comfort. Frustration. Exhaustion.

The biggest theme in my heart is not to take life for granted. One day life is ordinary. The next day, our life is turned upside down.

I hear in the news how famous people have committed suicide and taken away their own lives. They seemed to have everything. Money. Good looks. Fame. Success. Adoration. Fans. Talent. Why wasn’t that enough?

When I go to the hospital, I see families gathered together. They want more time with a loved one. I see faces full of concern, worry and grief. I see families comforting and supporting each other. I can see that they would do anything to spend more time with their loved one. I can see the value of life.

Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy. Satan is a thief of joy. Satan wants to cause grief, unhappiness and destruction.

Jesus wants to give us life. A full life. A rich life abounding in blessings. Happiness. Joy. Peace.

How am I living my life day to day? Am I treasuring my life? Am I thanking God for the gift of living another day? Am I making a positive difference?

I know people that live to stretch the truth. They twist the truth so much it becomes warped and unrecognizable. They seek to destroy. They seek to kill all relationships and connections of others. They make themselves look good by making others look bad. They have a streak of evil so ingrained, that they cannot even see it in themselves.

God wants us to live a full life. How do we do that? We have to seek God. We have to let go of control and trust in God.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;
I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
–John 10:10 (NIV)

You can have all the money, power, success and material things and still be empty. God can fill that void. God can give us a full life. God can give us everything we need.

You may sometimes think that you are not enough. That is Satan whispering lies to you, trying to destroy you. Satan does not want you to value your life or the lives of others. Satan wants to cause discord and unhappiness.

God made you, and you will always be enough. Every life has value. Each day is a gift from God. Live each day to do God’s good works. In little ways or big ways.
