Choosing Faith Each Day, Matthew

Day 25: Change Your Outlook

Have you ever heard that expression “Fake it, until you make it”? I think sometimes you have to change your mind-set to be successful. You have to honest and truthful with yourself. You have to believe in yourself. And, if you don’t, you have to act like it, until you do. Most times this works. What happens when it doesn’t?

There is a verse in the bible that says when two or more are gathered in my name, I am with them. You can pray with a spouse or friend. Sometimes, you need more strength for your prayer. Praying with someone adds that extra boost.

“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
–Matthew 18:20 (NIV)

So, its one thing to struggle to change. I am right there with you! It is another thing to judge others, when you are a mess. Jesus calls out hypocrites, especially the Pharisees, that are supposed to be Holy and righteous. They look their part on the outside, but are a mess on the inside.

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.”
–Matthew 23:25 (NIV)

Are you a hypocrite if you fake it until you make it? I don’t  think so. If you admit to yourself that you need to change, you are working on changing your thought process. Sometimes, you have to pretend to be confident on the outside. But, if you are acting confident, judging others, and pretending to be perfect, there is a problem. You are not perfect.

Right now my mom is in the rehabilitation facility at Johns Hopkins. I have read that studies have shown that a positive attitude helps you heal and defy the doctor’s prognosis. Is that true? I don’t know. I do know that a positive attitude is good for the patient, doctors, nurses and family. Being in the hospital is quite a stressful and emotional time. It is a huge relief to see a patient with a great attitude. It lifts some of the stress away.

Have a positive outlook on life. Count your blessings, not your problems. You will feel so much better! Sometimes, life is how you see it. Change your outlook.
