Hope and Peace, Paul, Timothy

Nourished in the Words of Faith

bible1Timothy4This morning, I read the first book of Timothy in my womens bible study. I am mediating on one verse, “nourished in the words of faith”. It sounds like we need the words of faith to live a happy, healthy life.

A Good Servant of Jesus Christ
If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.
–1 Timothy 4:6 (NKJV)

Google defines nourished as:

  1. Provide with the food or other substances necessary for growth, health, and good condition.
  2. Keep (a feeling or belief) in one’s mind, typically for a long time.

The words of faith provide us with the substance necessary for growth, health, and good condition. The words of faith keep a belief in our minds for a long time.

I struggled to get myself to the bible study this morning. It was cold and misty outside. I was tired. It was one of those mornings, where the soft blanket on the couch looked so inviting and hard to resist. I had to remind myself of how I feel when I don’t go to the bible study. Remembering how I felt, when I didn’t go to the bible study, was enough to motivate me to get out of the house, and go quickly to church.

The words of faith are nourishing. On this chilly day, this verse reminds me of comfort food, like a pot of chili simmering on the stove. It smells so good, when you come out of the cold and into your nice, toasty, warm house.  A bite of chili warms up your whole body. The words of faith are like that for us, only so much more…

The bible gives your mind peace. The words of faith make you feel content and whole inside. The bible nurtures your soul. Scripture verses fill that “what is missing in my life” question with a feeling of completeness in the love of Jesus.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you for the bible. I pray that today, the words of faith, in the bible, nurture my soul and make me complete in Jesus Christ. I pray that you guide me. I pray that you fill in any missing pieces in myself and give me peace.

Amen
