In this morning’s bible study, the leader asked if any of us had fear. Many of us raised our hands.
It was interesting that we read about fear two days before Halloween. I didn’t think about Halloween at all, as we read the scripture verses on fear. There are plenty of ways to be afraid around Halloween. I thought about that as I drove home and saw the spooky decorations on my neighbors’ houses. I thought about scary movies and haunted houses. I am sure the timing was not by accident…
I did have quite a few fears tossing around in my thoughts this morning. One of them was about my mom. My mom has terminal cancer. I fear that she will not be comfortable. I fear how I will deal with her death. I fear how my kids will deal with her death.
Our leader asked those around us to lay your hands on someone with her hand up, and the ladies prayed for us. I have seen this done for healing. This morning, I felt the laying on of hands for healing fear in myself.
Our leader told us that God does not want us to have fear. God wants to replace our fear with power, love and a sound mind. I just love these verses.
Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
–2 Timothy 1:6-7 (NKJV)
As I left the bible study, feeling all the good feelings from God, power to resist fear, the ability to love (even those who are unfair) and a sound mind. The song lyrics came on the radio, “My fear doesn’t stand a chance, when I stand in your love.”
Thank you, God, for your perfect timing to hear your message today through our bible study leader. It meant so much to me, that I wanted to share it with you. I hope it replaces your fear with power, love and a sound mind.
