Christians Need To Exercise Their Right To Vote

Happy November! I guess it is time to start decorating for Christmas, right? I think that I will wait at least a few weeks. Maybe…

In Virginia, we have an election on Tuesday. I have received so many flyers in the mail about why I should vote for each candidate. I have a stack of flyers on my counter. On Sunday, our pastor said that Christians need to exercise their right to vote. I have never heard another pastor say that before. We started attending this church in January 2017. The pastor introduced several candidates running for office.

This morning, I opened up my bible and read a passage on government. It says that we need to respect our government. God is the ultimate authority. All authorities that exist are appointed by God.

Submit to Government
Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.
–Romans 13:1 (NKJV)

When I look at at some of our authorities, it is hard to believe that God would want them in charge. Virginia’s Governor Northam wore black face or a KKK robe in his college year book picture, and he approves and supports infanticide. Horrible. Maybe God revealed these things, so we know the governor’s true intentions and beliefs. I can think of a ton of examples of leaders in the government that were not Godly people. Some were and are detestable.

Why would God want us to submit to government? God’s ways are not our ways. I think God wants everyone to come to him, no matter what mistakes they have made. I am thankful for God’s kindness and forgiveness. I am thankful that God forgives me.

At church, we are reading the book of Daniel. Daniel serves as a royal advisor to the king. None of the kings Daniel serves, started off as Christians. King Nebuchadnezzar may have converted after seeing God’s miracles through Daniel. I don’t know if King Belshazzar and King Darius converted. God worked miracles through Daniel, interpreting dreams, saving Daniel’s friends from a fiery furnace and saving Daniel from the lion in the lion’s den.

God is the only authority. Government officials come and go, yet God is forever. The governing structure was established by God to help us. Our election is on Tuesday. I am going to research the candidates and vote my Christian values. Will my vote matter? Yes, when it is combined with thousands of other Christians.

See you at the polls!
