Faith, Paul

Turn Them From Darkness to Light

Lately, I have seen Kanye West in the news for being a Christian. The number 1 song is “Jesus is Lord”. I am not up on the latest trends, but I can get behind this one. How many people are seeing the song’s name declaring Jesus is Lord? Wow, that is amazing! Every song on his album has been on the top 100 song list.

My husband told me about Kanye West becoming a Christin and the Sunday Services.  I was amazed. My first thought was that Kanye West’s dramatic conversion reminds me of Paul (also called Saul) in the bible. God drastically transformed Paul from persecuting Christians to boldly declaring his Christian faith.

When Paul was traveling to Damascus, he saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun. Paul and those traveling with him, fell to the ground. Saul heard a voice speaking in his language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ A goad is a spiked stick used for driving cattle.

Saul asked who was speaking to him.

The voice said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.” He told him to stand up. Jesus said that he appeared to him for a purpose. Jesus told him that he is going to make Saul a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you.

God planned to use Saul to bring others to him. God wanted Saul to be a witness. God wanted Saul to be a testimony of God’s goodness to others. God wanted more people to turn from darkness to light. God wanted more people to turn away from the power of Satan and to turn toward God. God wanted to forgive their sins and give them an internal life in heaven.

Paul Recounts His Conversion
“While thus occupied, as I journeyed to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests, at midday, O king, along the road I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining around me and those who journeyed with me. And when we all had fallen to the ground, I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ So I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you,  to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’
–Acts 26:12-18 (NKJV)

God is always good. God is light. God’s goodness brings us to our knees.

We all have a purpose. God will select the most unlikely people to do his good works. God has a plan for us. God shows us a part of the his plan, and then he reveals more as we walk forward in our lives. We have to trust that God’s plan is better than our own. Most times, I do not understand the plan. If I feel like God wants me to do something, I try to do it.

It is not always easy to do God’s will. We can face obstacles. We can endure spiritual attacks. God is mightier than anything on earth. I look at things and think they are impossible. Nothing is impossible for God.

Lately, I have learned a few things about handling difficulties in life. If a person is attacking you with words an accusations, you can fight back. God fights our battles in the heavenly realms. God wants that person attacking you to turn away from the darkness and turn toward the light. God wants that person released from Satan’s control and to turn to him. God wants to forgive that person. God may want to use you to bring that person to him.

God is all good. You have let go of control and give control to God, knowing he will fight for you.

Here is a list of ways to let God fight for you:

  1. You can pray for the person attacking you.
  2. You can protect your heart by reading scripture verses.
  3. You can memorize a scripture verse and recite it in your head, each time you start thinking negative thoughts.
  4. You can pray to God to fight your battles in the heavenly realms.

God can turn the most unlikely people into believers. God wants to turn them from darkness to light. Once you experience the utter goodness and kindness of God, you will want to tell everyone.
