Choosing Faith Each Day, Psalm

Petition and Praise to God

God is so good and worthy of every praise!

Recently, I have seen a very faithful family, surround their dad and grandfather with love, before he died. He was not afraid to die, because he knew he was going to heaven. He will leave a huge void in their lives as a husband, father, grandfather and friend. They knew he was going to the most perfect place, so they were happy for him, yet sad at their loss.

He knew that he had salvation, so he died in peace knowing he was going to heaven.

Even though we don’t deserve it, because every one of us is a sinner and not worthy, God loves us so much that he will give each of us the gift of salvation. In the Old Testament perfect sacrifices were given as burnt offerings to God. The animals had to be perfect and unblemished. In the Old Testament, our sins had to be atoned for with a sacrifice. God looked around the entire earth and not one person was worthy, so he sent his only son, Jesus, born to a Virgin, named Mary. Jesus is God in the form of a man. He died on the cross as a sacrificial lamb to atone for our sins, so we can join our Father in heaven. Then He rose again, three days later after being crucified and joined His Father in Heaven on the right side. All we have to do is believe in Jesus, and we get the biggest gift, eternal life with God.

A lot of people I have met think this is it. Earth is all there is. Its not. We have to endure tribulations here on earth, and feel the pure joy in life too. When life goes well, enjoy it and give God all the glory. When life is not going well and feels unbearable, give that to God too. He will carry us through it, help us learn from it and strengthen our trust in Him, so we won’t have to carry the burdens.

Today I read Psalm 67. “An Invocation and a Doxology” means it is a petition and praise to God. It is good to praise God for all that He has done for us.

Merrium Webster Dictionary definitions:

  • Invocation
    the act or process of petitioning for help or support
    specifically, often Invocation a prayer of entreaty (as at the beginning of a service of worship)
    a calling upon for authority or justification
  • Doxology
    usually liturgical expression of praise to God

An Invocation and a Doxology
To the Chief Musician.
On stringed instruments.
A Psalm. A Song.

God be merciful to us and bless us,
And cause His face to shine upon us, Selah

That Your way may be known on earth,
Your salvation among all nations.

Let the peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.

Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy!
For You shall judge the people righteously,
And govern the nations on earth. Selah

Let the peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.

Then the earth shall yield her increase;
God, our own God, shall bless us.

God shall bless us,
And all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.
