Have you ever felt like you are walking through fire? You felt like you did everything right, but you are really going through it.
We had our share of difficulties. When we were going through it, it felt like we were hanging off a cliff barely holding on to a flimsy rope, while we kept slowly slipping into an abyss. Let go? Or, trust in God and keep hanging on?
We made the best choice of our lives. Trust in God and keep hanging to the shred of hope that God will take care of us. God did. When God comes through, He comes all the way through. No detail is missing, but God will add more of what He knows you need.
So, we thought we were living a good life, going to church, saying a Goodnight prayer with our kids. We were just going through the motions. Our hearts were not where they needed to be. We spent 7 years and 7 months changing. It was not easy, but looking back, I would never change it.
We had to be put to the fire to reshape us, not even refine ourselves, but completely change shape. God put us through it, so we have a better life. Now, we say God what do you want us to do? Before, we told God what we wanted and got mad when it didn’t work. It is God’s plan, not ours, that gives us peace and fills our hearts with joy. Our plans are too small. God has plans to use our lives and testimonies to touch other people. We may never know it, or we may realize it be in awe of all the good God has for us.
I read this bible verse today, and it resonated with me. We will be seasoned with fire. Every sacrifice with be seasoned with salt. Salt is good. If salt no longer has flavor, how do you get the seasoning back? We need to make sacrifices to get seasoning. We need to have peace and forgive one another.
Tasteless Salt Is Worthless
“For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.”
—Mark 9:49-50 NKJV
Do you have resentments towards anyone? I do. Angry recollections of what they did and how unfair it was drift through my thoughts, and fake conversations of what I want to say are narrated in my head. I can let those thoughts simmer and stew, or forgive and let them go. So, I don’t say anything (or try not to). Instead I give it to God to fight my battles and say a prayer for the person and family, whenever these thoughts start space invading my head.
Flavor as defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary:
: the quality of something that affects the sense of taste
: a particular type of taste
: a good or appealing taste
It is a good reminder not to give myself over to bitterness. Sour candy has a time and place, but nobody wants to be around a sour person. Flavor is the quality that affects taste and is appealing. We want highly valuable thoughts and actions making us a delight to be around, and spreading peace in the process.
Let go, give it to God, forgive, and sacrifice. Stay salty!
