Houses need to be built on a good foundation, so they don’t crumble and fall. In Matthew Chapter 7: 24-29, Jesus talked about building a house on a solid foundation. When a storm hits your house, you can tell if it was built on solid ground or collapses when it is built on sand. The solid house will stand through rain, floodwaters and wind. the weak house will crumble.
Faith is the same way. Your faith needs to be built on a solid foundation. When the storms of life start raining down on you, it will be clear if your faith has holes in it.
Twelve years ago, I went through a storm, and it showed that my faith was not very strong, mostly surface. I had to work on it, reading the Bible, praying and attending a church that reads the Bible cover to cover.
Now, I am yet again facing a storm. My faith is much stronger now. There are still days when the winds of life bring me down. I have to seek shelter in the Lord, so I don’t fall down. I have to continue to pray, read the Bible and go to church.
Waiting for your prayers to be answered can be rough. Silence can be uncomfortable. I start to feel doubts slipping in. Will God answer my prayers? Have I had my chance, and I messed it up?
God has always been faithful to me. God has created a way when there was no way in sight, over and over again. During hard times, I see the cracks in my foundation of faith.
All I can do is surrender to the Lord. Sunshine or storm, God let your will be done and carry me through it.
Building on a Solid Foundation
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, for he taught with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law.
