Sometimes when bad things happen, we wonder how God could let it happen to us. I am not talking about death. Death was never in God’s original plan for us. Grief is indescribable and can be a very long journey. I am talking about things that happen in life, like losing a job. Instead of asking God, why this happened to us (although God can handle any question or problem from us) we should ask God, what do You want us to learn from this?
If you read my blog, you know that my husband lost his job 12 years ago, and it was rough, so much so that I continue to write about it now. At the time, my dad was extremely kind and generous, offering to take care of us, until my husband found another job. I declined, because I thought we could make it work. My dad died 3 months later. I had to turn to my heavenly Father, who provided for us in every way. The biggest lesson we learned was to trust in God. It was life changing. If my earthly father was generous, how much more generous is our Father in Heaven?
Now my husband doesn’t have a job. It is totally different. God gives my heart peace. Last time, people we thought were close to us ran away from us thinking we would ask them for money, which we never would. This time, people are asking for his resume to send to people they know and praying for us. Instead of kicking us while we are at a low point, people are building us up. I am so thankful for it.
Some people say they are Christians, and some people act like Christians. Which one are you?
God knows your heart.
I trust in God to take care of us. God can use people around us to do His good will. I want to be one of these people. I still don’t know what is going to happen next. I do know that I trust in God to take care of us. God is there, so I will not be shaken, I will feel joy in His presence, while we wait.
For David says concerning Him:
‘I foresaw the Lord always before my face,
For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken.Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad;
Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope.For You will not leave my soul in Hades,
Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.You have made known to me the ways of life;
You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’—Acts 2:25-28 NKJV
Embrace This Beautiful Life 
Karen, thank you for sharing this so honestly. I think one of the hardest lessons for any believer is learning to replace “Why is this happening?” with “Lord, what are You teaching me through this?” That’s not easy when you’re in the middle of uncertainty.
I also loved your contrast between the two seasons your family has walked through. It’s encouraging to see how God not only provides, but also surrounds us with people who reflect His love at just the right time. Your question, “Some people say they are Christians, and some people act like Christians. Which one are you?” is one that really makes us stop and examine our own hearts.
I’ll be praying that the Lord opens the right door for your husband at exactly the right time. Until then, may His peace continue to guard your hearts, and may your testimony keep pointing others to the faithfulness of our heavenly Father. God bless you both.
